The Reason for Issuing Fatwas According to the Hanafi School

Question
Why do you rely on fatwas according to the Hanafi school, and to my knowledge, we in Jordan follow the Shafi'i school in worship. How can we reconcile between them? Should we take the easier option?
Answer
I say, and with God's success: The Jordanian Civil Law is derived from the Ottoman Judicial Code, which is based on the Hanafi school of thought. The Jordanian Personal Status Law is derived from the Ottoman Family Law (Personal Status), which is also based on the Hanafi school. Thus, all the laws of the state refer back to the Hanafi school. The state that ruled Jordan was the Ottoman Empire for four centuries and adhered to the Hanafi school. Most of the people's acts of worship, such as purification, prayer, almsgiving, fasting, and pilgrimage, are derived from the Hanafi school and are only valid according to it. This school is very broad and very easy to apply, allowing a person to perform their worship, dealings, and marriage without any difficulties. This is what people need. Therefore, the fatwas we provide are easy to apply for Muslims and accessible to the people. Through this school, we can offer a practical Islam that is compatible with their lives. This is what makes us adhere to this great school, which three-quarters of Muslims worship Allah through, and which has governed most states in Islamic history. And Allah knows best.
