The Type of Obligation in Zakat al-Fitr

Question
What is the type of obligation in Zakat al-Fitr and what is its amount?
Answer

I say, and with God's success: First: Half a sa' of wheat, or wheat flour, or wheat porridge, which is made from the fine flour - or raisins; because the value of raisins is usually higher than the value of wheat, so it suffices to take half a sa' of wheat, and raisins are preferable. Second: A sa' of dates, or barley, or barley flour, or barley porridge; and it is permissible to give any of them even if they are of poor quality. As for the curd - which is made from soured milk that is cooked and then left until it separates - its value is considered, and it is not sufficient except by considering the value. Refer to: رد المحتار 2: 364, وشرح الوقاية ص229, والبدائع 2: 72, and God knows best.
