Question
A person whose salary has reached the nisab, is he obligated to pay zakat, and how does a year pass if he receives it every month?
Answer
I say, and with Allah's success: Whoever possesses the amount of the nisab, which is (100) grams of gold, must pay zakat after a full lunar year has passed. For example, if he possessed the nisab amount at the end of Ramadan, which is (3000) dinars, then at the end of Ramadan in the following year he had the same amount or more, he is obligated to pay zakat. However, if he did not possess such an amount at the same time in the following year, then zakat is not obligatory upon him. The important factor is not the amount of salary, whether high or low, but rather possessing the amount of zakat at a specific time of the year, and having the same or more at the same time in the following year. And Allah knows best.
