Voluntary I'tikaf

Question
What is the ruling for someone who performs I'tikaf without making it obligatory upon themselves?
Answer

I say, and with Allah's success: He is considered to be in I'tikaf as long as he remains in the mosque, and if he interrupts it, there is nothing upon him; because he has stayed in a specific place, it is not measured by the day. Refer to: Al-Tahbiin 1: 347, and Al-Mabsut 3: 121, and Allah knows best.
