The Preferred Time for the Asr Prayer

Question
What is the preferred time for the Asr prayer?
Answer
I say, and with God's success: If the sky is clear, it is recommended to delay the Asr prayer as long as the sun has not changed - that is, when it turns yellow and weak enough that the eye can look at it -; Ali ibn Shayban, may God be pleased with him, said: "We arrived at the Messenger of God, peace be upon him, in Medina, and he would delay the Asr prayer as long as the sun was white and clear." In Sunan Abi Dawood 1: 11, and he remained silent about it. It is good according to him as mentioned by Al-Zailai, who quoted from Al-Mundhiri. See: I'laa al-Sunan 2: 37. And Umm Salamah, may God be pleased with her, said: "The Messenger of God, peace be upon him, was more prompt in the Dhuhr prayer than you, and you are more prompt in the Asr prayer than him," in Sunan al-Tirmidhi 1: 303, Musnad Ahmad 6: 289, Musnad Abu Ya'la 12: 426, and others, and in Al-Jawhar al-Naqi 1: 112: its narrators are according to the conditions of the Sahih. As in I'laa al-Sunan 2: 37. And Ibrahim al-Nakha'i, may God be pleased with him, said: "I saw the companions of Ibn Mas'ud, may God be pleased with him, delaying the Asr prayer until the end of the time," in Al-Athar 1: 20. And because delaying it allows for more time for the voluntary prayers, thus increasing them, it is recommended, while hastening it cuts them off due to the dislike of voluntary prayers afterward, so it is not recommended. However, if the sky is cloudy: it is recommended to hasten the Asr prayer; because delaying it may lead to the assumption of it being performed at a disliked time; Abu Malih said: We were with Buraidah, may God be pleased with him, on a cloudy day, and he said: "Hasten to prayer, for the Prophet, peace be upon him, said: Whoever neglects the Asr prayer, his deeds will be nullified," in Sahih al-Bukhari 1: 214. And Buraidah, may God be pleased with him, said: The Prophet, peace be upon him, said: "Hasten to prayer on a cloudy day, for whoever neglects the prayer has disbelieved," in Sahih Ibn Hibban 4: 323. And Abdul Aziz ibn Rafi' said: We were informed that the Messenger of God, peace be upon him, said: "Hasten the Asr prayer on a cloudy day," in Sunan Sa'id ibn Mansur, and its chain is strong despite being interrupted, as in I'laa al-Sunan 2: 50. See: Waqayat al-Riwayah p. 137, and Kanz al-Daqaiq 1: 83, and Tabyeen al-Haqaiq 1: 83, and God knows best.
