The Draping of the Garment and Its Ruling in Prayer

Question
What is the draping of the garment and what is its ruling in prayer?
Answer
Sadl of the garment is to let the garment hang down without bringing its sides together. It is said to mean throwing it over one's head and letting it fall over the shoulders, or to throw it over the shoulders without inserting the hands into the sleeves, and to bring the ends together. It is disliked to do this in prayer; for Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) prohibited sadl in prayer and for a man to cover his mouth. This is found in Sahih Ibn Khuzaymah 1: 379, Sahih Ibn Hibban 6: 67, and Sunan al-Tirmidhi 2: 217. See: Al-Mabsut 1: 34.
