Question
I am a farmer who relies on rainwater and also on water from the nudge to irrigate my cultivated land. How do I pay zakat on the land?
Answer
The rule: If the crop is irrigated by human action and without human action, the ruling is based on the majority of the year, meaning the farmer must pay half of the tithe or the full tithe based on the greater amount of irrigation or lack thereof. Therefore: if the crop remains in the ground for four months and you irrigated it for three, you must pay half of the tithe; if you irrigated it for one month, you must pay the full tithe; if you irrigated it for two months, you must pay half of the tithe. However, if the crop was irrigated with rainwater for three months, you must pay the full tithe; if irrigated with rainwater for one month, you must pay half of the tithe; if irrigated with rainwater for two months, you must pay half of the tithe; this is to consider the rights of the farmer.
