Question
What is the minimum threshold for olives that requires zakat, and why do we not deduct the wages of workers and transportation from zakat, like commercial goods? Is it permissible to exchange oil for olives?
Answer
I say, and with God's success: There is no minimum threshold for olive zakat, so everything that comes out is subject to zakat, and one-tenth or half one-tenth is required on all that comes out; because the texts have stated this without deducting costs, and it is permissible to exchange oil for olives if it is equal to what is in the oil, and God knows best.
