Zakat on Money Held in War-Torn Countries
I have money in Syria, and I want to pay zakat on it; but I need to convert it to dollars. If I want to exchange it through the state, they will not give me dollars, and if I want to exchange it through traders, they will exploit us and charge us more. What should I do about the zakat?
Answer
I say, and with God's success: It is possible to give zakat without converting it to dollars, so zakat can be given from what you have, and God knows best.
