Zakat on Lost Money If Found
Is zakat obligatory on money that is not expected to return if found after many years?
Answer
I say, with Allah's guidance: If he finds it after years, he should only pay zakat for the year in which he found it. As mentioned in Sharh al-Wiqayah, p. 208, and Allah knows best.
