Zakat on Livestock of Camels, Cattle, and Sheep

Question
Is Zakat due on livestock of camels, cattle, and sheep?
Answer
The livestock that is fed for most of the year is not subject to zakat, and it is the opposite of the grazing livestock that grazes for most of the year. This is unless it is for trade; if it is for trade, it is subject to the zakat of goods. See: 'Umda al-Ri'aya 1: 275.
