Zakat on Honey

Question
Do beekeepers have to pay zakat?
Answer
Yes, beekeepers must pay zakat, and it is always (10)%; due to the absence of expenses for irrigation, as is the case with crops and fruits. Even if the honey bees live in the mountains, beekeepers must pay (10)% of what their bees produce, whether they live in their homes, farms, or mountains. There is no difference between one land and another; as narrated by Abu Sayyar Al-Mutakiy - may Allah be pleased with him - who said: I said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have bees." He said: "Pay the tenth." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, protect them for me," and he protected them for me." This is found in Sunan Ibn Majah 1: 584, Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 2: 373, and Musnad Ahmad 4: 263.
