Zakat on Debt Owed to the Creditor
My uncle borrowed fifteen thousand from my father four years ago with the intention of repayment. When is Zakat due on this money?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: Zakat is due when the debt is collected, and it should be paid for all previous years if there is hope for its return. If there is no hope for its return, only one year's zakat should be paid, and God knows best.
