Question
If a woman's dowry is in gold, whether it is given in advance or deferred, is there Zakat on it? And if the amount of this gold was approximately (300,000) Lebanese Lira and now with the rise of the dollar it has become about (200) dollars, knowing that my salary has become less than (100) dollars, do I need to sell some of this gold to pay its Zakat? Note that (200) dollars have become (2.5) million Lebanese Lira?
Answer
I say, and with God's success: The obligation of zakat for anyone who owns (100) grams of gold and a year has passed, whether the owner of the nisab is a man or a woman. If this condition is met, you must pay the zakat on the gold. If the money you have is not sufficient, you should sell part of your gold to pay the zakat. If you have not received the dowry, as in the case of a delayed payment, then zakat is not required on it. And God knows best.
