Question
A man has a grown daughter who has a sum of money (5000) dinars that she has saved. This daughter has been afflicted with a severe mental condition that is not medically recognized, and she no longer understands what she is doing or speaks to anyone, as if she is enchanted. She has been in this state for some time. Is she required to pay zakat on this amount every year, knowing that she does not use it for anything, and given her psychological condition, she cannot invest it in anything?
Answer
I say, and with God's guidance: If she is not insane and has not lost her mind, she is required to pay zakat on this amount until it falls below the nisab, which is the value of 100 grams of gold. And God knows best.
