Zakat for a Woman Whose Husband Left Her with Children

Question
A woman whose husband is financially capable has traveled and left her with three children, and he does not provide for her. She is supporting herself and her children by selling her gold. Does this woman and her children deserve zakat?
Answer
I say, and with God's success: Those who are entitled to zakat are those who do not possess the nisab of deprivation, which is the known nisab of zakat (100) grams of gold or its equivalent in excess of their original needs from their home, furniture, car, and others. Whoever possesses this is prohibited from receiving zakat, and God knows best.
