Question
Should we act upon the noble prophetic hadith: 'Whoever dies while owing a fast, let his guardian fast on his behalf'?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: If the deceased had days that he did not fast, it is recommended for us to pay a ransom for each day equivalent to feeding a poor person, which is estimated at about two dinars. As for fasting, it is not permissible, and God knows best.
