Working in Gold Mining
What is the ruling on working in the field of gold ore mining in the mountains of Egypt, knowing that the government prohibits it and the law here also forbids it, and that obtaining licenses for it is very difficult? More than a million men are working in gold ore mining here in Upper Egypt, so what is the ruling on working in it?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: If they engaged in what benefits them in this world and the Hereafter, it would be better for them; for the pursuit of gold corrupts the heart and mind and wastes time and life, yet it remains among the permissible things, and God knows best.
