Question
Is the remaining wetness on the hand after washing a part of the washed limbs sufficient for wiping the head in ablution?
Answer
I say, and with God's success: It is sufficient to wipe, and one becomes in a state of ablution; for Al-Rabi' said: "Indeed, the Prophet, peace be upon him, wiped his head with the leftover water that was in his hand like this," in Sunan Abu Dawood 1: 32, and he did not comment on it, and in Sunan Al-Bayhaqi Al-Kabir 1: 237. The obligatory wiping of the head in ablution is achieved by the wet hand touching the member, either with moisture taken from the vessel, or with moisture remaining on the hand after washing one of the washed members. The remaining moisture on his hand after wiping one of the wiped members is not sufficient, nor is the moisture taken from any of his members, whether that member is washed or wiped. Likewise, in wiping over the khuff (leather socks) and the splint, see: Sharh Al-Wiqayah p. 76, and Al-Sayah 1: 76, and God knows best.
