Whoever intends to pray and then goes to perform ablution, but when he starts the prayer, the intention does not come to him

Question
What is the ruling for someone who intended to pray, then went to perform ablution, but when he started the prayer, the intention did not come to him?
Answer
His prayer is valid as long as he does not engage in anything that is not of the same nature as prayer between the intention and the takbir: such as talking, eating, and drinking. The intention should coincide with the takbir here; because walking to perform ablution does not prevent the connection between the intention and the takbir, as it is of the same nature as prayer. See: Al-Maraqī, p. 217.
