Question
I intended to fast a voluntary fast and began it, but my father commanded me to break it. What is the ruling?
Answer
If one of the parents forbids the child from fasting out of concern for his health, then it is better to obey them if he is confident in his ability to make up the fast, even if it is after noon until the afternoon; because honoring one's parents is considered a valid excuse for breaking a voluntary fast.
