What is the ruling on someone who gives half a sa' of dates that is equivalent in value to half a sa' of wheat for the wheat in Zakat al-Fitr?
Answer
It is not permissible; rather, it is considered as the same type of dates, and he must complete the remainder by providing another half a sa' of dates; because the value is not considered in what is explicitly stated, whether the one who performed it is of the same type or of a different type after it has been explicitly stated. Rather, the value is considered in what is not explicitly stated. See: Bada'i' al-Sana'i' 2: 72-73.
