Question
Does wet dreaming invalidate fasting? What is the difference between wet dreaming and masturbation? Does wet dreaming or masturbation in women during menstruation require a full ritual bath? What is the ruling on masturbation?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: Wet dreams do not invalidate fasting, and it is what the sleeper sees of sexual intercourse that results in ejaculation. As for masturbation, it is the release of semen without intercourse or direct contact between a husband and his wife or vice versa, and both require a full ablution (ghusl). A woman is not required to perform ghusl during menstruation upon the release of semen. Masturbation is forbidden when there is no necessity for a single person to relieve their desire when they are aroused. And God knows best.
