Wearing a Wig for the Bald Due to Illness

Question
Is it permissible for a woman to wear a synthetic wig for her husband and for someone who has become bald due to illness, as long as it does not involve deception?
Answer
I say, and with God's success: It is strictly prohibited for a woman to attach her hair to that of another; based on the hadith of Asma bint Abu Bakr, who said: A woman came to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have a daughter who is getting married, and she has been afflicted with chickenpox, causing her hair to fall out. Should I attach hair to hers?" He said: "May Allah curse the one who connects hair and the one who requests it," as found in Sahih Muslim 3: 1676. This is due to the deceit, fraud, and betrayal involved, and because it is a benefit derived from a part of a human being. Therefore, it is strictly prohibited to wear a wig if it is made of natural hair from a woman. As for if it is made of synthetic hair that she adorns herself with for her husband, it is permissible; because it is allowed for a woman to attach her hair with something other than human hair, such as wool, which women use to enhance their hairstyles and braids, as stated in Rad al-Muhtar 6: 373. Al-Tahawi said in Sharh Mushkil al-Athar 3: 162: "We found that all scholars after the companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) permit attaching hair with something other than human hair, such as wool... Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: There is no harm for a woman to attach her hair with wool. And from Bukayr from his mother, she entered upon Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) while she was a bride, and with her was her hairdresser. Aisha said: Is this her hair? The hairdresser said: It is her hair and I have attached it with wool. Umm Bukayr said: I did not hear her deny that," thus the hadith about the one who connects hair is specific to this case, as mentioned in the explanation of the Musnad of Abu Hanifa by Al-Qari, p. 412. It is even more permissible for a woman afflicted with a disease such as cancer, which causes her hair to fall out, to wear a wig for her husband or for female visitors or mahrams, as long as it is free from deceit, betrayal, and fraud. This is because a woman's life with her husband is based on adornment and beauty, so she should not be prevented from that if they agree on it; the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Shall I not inform you of the best thing to hoard? A righteous woman, when he looks at her, she pleases him..." in Al-Mustadrak 1: 567, 2: 363, and it is authenticated, and in Sunan Abu Dawood 2: 126. In the fatwas of the Egyptian Fatwa House 10: 11: "We see that the prohibition is based on deceit and trickery, and also based on temptation and allure to attract the attention of foreign men. From this, it is understood that wearing a wig when going out or when meeting foreign visitors is forbidden," and Allah knows best.
