Question
Is it permissible for someone who wears a thin sock that does not stay on the foot by itself but needs to be tightened to wipe over it?
Answer
I say, and with God's success: It is not permissible; because it is a condition for the permissibility of wiping over the socks that they must be firmly held on the feet without being tightened, so they must be self-holding due to their thickness, and thin ones do not hold themselves and are not suitable for covering the distance, as water may seep through them, so it is not permissible to wipe over them. Refer to: Al-Hadiyah Al-Ala'iyah p.39, and Al-Maraqiy p.131, and God knows best.
