Question
What is the ruling for someone who wiped over their khuff which had a large tear, but it was closed and only opens when walking in it?
Answer
I say, and with God's success: If the tear is large enough that three fingers of the smallest toes can fit into it and it is closed but opens when walking, showing this amount, then it is not permissible to wipe over it; because it is a condition for the permissibility of wiping over the shoe that both shoes are free from a tear that shows three fingers of the smallest toes. Here, the condition is not met, unlike if the tear is large enough that three fingers of the smallest toes can fit into it if inserted, but this amount does not appear, then it is permissible to wipe over it; because the consideration is for the appearance of the fingers from the tear, not for the possibility of fitting them in. Refer to: Sharh Al-Wiqayah, p. 117, and God knows best.
