Question
Is it permissible to perform ablution with water in which a fly has died?
Answer
I say, and with God's success: If something that does not have flowing blood dies in water, like a fly, it remains pure and purifying for ritual impurity, and it is permissible to perform ablution and bathing with it; because the impure is the spilled blood. Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "If a fly falls into the drink of any one of you, let him dip it in, then take it out, for in one of its wings is a disease, and in the other is a cure," as narrated in Sahih al-Bukhari 3: 1206, Sahih Ibn Khuzaymah 1: 56, Sahih Ibn Hibban 4: 53, and Al-Muntaka 1: 26. See: Al-Wiqayah and its explanation by Sadr al-Shari'ah, pp. 96-97, and Allah knows best.
