Using the items after searching for their owner
A taxi driver forgot two items belonging to his passengers; the first left a small gas canister, and the other left a toolbox with screwdrivers and other things. The driver went many times to the places he dropped them off for three months but did not find them. Is his wife entitled to use these items?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: These items are subject to the ruling of lost property. After they are announced and it is confirmed that their owner has not returned, it is permissible for him to give them as charity on behalf of their owner, even for himself if he is poor. And God knows best.
