Question
I am a Jordanian student studying in Greece, and I recently faced an issue for which I seek a ruling: In the university restaurant (80% of my food there), they sometimes use the same food tongs for different purposes, such as picking up pork and chicken with one tong, or when I go to the supermarket, the butcher uses the same knife to cut different meats. What is the ruling on that? Also, when going to different restaurants, I am not sure if they use the same grill for all meats. What is the ruling?
Answer
If the knife or tongs used for the pig are used before he uses them for you, then the impurity transfers to what you buy. You should ask him, for example, to wash it, or you can wash the meat after it has been cut with the knife to remove the impurity, or ensure that it is pure and not impure when he used it. And Allah knows best.
