Question
My husband is suffering from Parkinson's disease (tremor paralysis), and he is almost bedridden with quadriplegia. There is no treatment for him except for some medications that initially helped his condition, but now the medications are no longer effective. We heard about a treatment for him in Ukraine using stem cells, and when we asked how to obtain these cells, this was their response: For example, embryonic cells for infertility cases are taken from the fetus's testicles. There are aborted fetuses in Ukraine whose owners sell them to the national center, and the cells are extracted from the embryonic tissues from various areas for other disease cases. Cells are extracted from the umbilical cord, and in other cases, cells are extracted from the amniotic fluid. After extracting the cells, they are preserved in specific liquids and temperatures to maintain them. In a single dose, about 30 million cells are injected. My question is: Is it religiously permissible to treat in this way?
Answer
I say, and with God's success: If there is no harm in it, it is permissible, and God knows best.
