Treatment of the Wife and Its Inclusion in Maintenance
I recall reading once that the treatment of the wife, whether for illness or the costs of childbirth and so on, is not part of the obligatory maintenance that the husband must provide, but rather it is given out of good companionship. Is this fatwa correct?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: This fatwa is not religiously correct; treating the wife is an obligation on the husband, but from a judicial perspective, it is not mandatory; because it is not well-defined, and God knows best.
