Theft of Electricity and Water out of Necessity
A widow with children is suffering from financial difficulties. Her sister is housing her in a house without water or electricity. Is it permissible for her to take water and electricity from the company illegally for a period until her situation improves?
Answer
I say, and with Allah's help: Difficult circumstances are not an excuse for theft and transgression against public money or the property of others; rather, one should fear Allah, the Almighty, until relief comes, and Allah knows best.
