The Waiting Period After Death
Why did Allah, the Exalted, prescribe a waiting period of four months and ten days for a wife whose husband has passed away? Is it permissible for a woman in her waiting period to visit her neighbor in the nearby building, and how long is she allowed to stay?
Answer
I say, and with God's success: This is a matter of worship, and it is not justified like the number of units in prayer. It is not permissible for a woman to go out unless there is a necessity, and visiting is not a necessity. God knows best.
