Question
It was reported: "I witnessed Muawiya ibn Abi Sufyan asking Zayd ibn Arqam, 'Did you witness two Eids together on one day with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)?' He said: 'Yes.' He asked: 'What did he do?' He said: 'He prayed the Eid prayer and then permitted (the Friday prayer), saying: 'Whoever wants to pray, let him pray.'" Is it true that some rely on this evidence?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: There are hadith narrations that people cling to, but they are contradicted by stronger ones. Therefore, the majority of jurists adhere to the obligation of Friday prayers and that they do not fall away. And God knows best.
