The Spending of a Divorced or Widowed Woman on Her Children
If a divorced or widowed woman spends her own money on her children, and they have no inheritance and have lost contact with their father, is she obligated to support them in the absence of the father? And should the children, once they grow up, repay her for what she spent on them?
Answer
I say, and with God's success: If she is able to provide for them, then their maintenance is obligatory upon her in the absence of the father, and they are not required to pay maintenance to the mother; it is obligatory upon her, and God knows best.
