Question
In the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, there are nineteen scholars, one of whom is Saleh Al-Fawzan. Why don't we follow them?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: We, the people of the Sunnah, do not follow a specific scholar or person, no matter who they are, except for the Messenger of God, peace be upon him. However, the knowledge of the Messenger of God, peace be upon him, has been transmitted through established sciences that have countless rules, innumerable scholars, and a great many books. These sciences are the four Sunni schools: Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi'i, and Hanbali. Adhering to each of them clarifies the reality of what the Messenger of God, peace be upon him, was upon. This is our distinction as the people of the Sunnah. As for those who follow a specific person in interpreting the religion, they encounter many problems, as we see these days with those who follow certain individuals from Saudi Arabia. Even if these individuals from Saudi Arabia do not adhere to a school, as is the case, they are not considered among the people of the Sunnah due to their deviation from the path of the people of the Sunnah in adhering to the four schools. And God knows best.
