The Ruling on Zakat for Money That Cannot Be Disposed Of
A person has an amount of money in the bank and has taken a loan against it, so he is unable to withdraw from it because the bank can dispose of it if he does not pay his monthly installments. Is there Zakat due on this amount?
Answer
I say, and with God's success: He must pay zakat if he has surplus over his debts, whether to the bank or others, and if it reaches the threshold amount for zakat, and God knows best.
