The Ruling on Zakat for a Debtor
A person possesses the nisab, and a year has passed, but they have a debt (loan) greater than this nisab. Do they owe zakat?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: Zakat is obligatory if the nisab exceeds one's debts; otherwise, it is not obligatory. And God knows best.
