The Ruling on What the Heirs Spent on Repairing the Property Before the Owner's Death

Question
My children put money for repairing the house while the father was alive. If the house is sold before distributing the inheritance, are they entitled to take back what they paid? One of them lived in the house for four years, the second lived for two years, and the third did not live with them?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: It appears that they paid the money for the purpose of repairing the house to live in it, and they have lived there, so they no longer have a right to the money. However, if they lent it to their father for the purpose of repairing the house, they would retain a right to the money in such a way that it would be excluded from the inheritance; otherwise, they do not, and God knows best.
