I say, and with God's help: It is permissible for men to wear a silver ring for engagement and other occasions, but it is preferable to leave it due to lack of necessity. Wearing a ring has become a custom among Muslims, so it is not harmful for it to be a custom of non-Muslims as well. And God knows best.
