The Ruling on Using a Patch to Quit Smoking While Fasting

Question
What is the ruling on using a patch to quit smoking while fasting?
Answer

With the emergence of modern methods to quit smoking, a so-called "quit smoking patch" has been invented, which is a piece placed on the shoulder that limits and alleviates the feeling of needing a cigarette. Therefore, using this patch during Ramadan to help a person quit smoking does not invalidate the fast; because it sends signals through the body's pores and does not enter the stomach, and the pores are not considered valid openings in Sharia. It is permissible to use it, but it is preferable to avoid it so that fasting becomes an opportunity for the person to test themselves repeatedly and train themselves to be patient, thus strengthening their willpower and increasing their conviction to quit smoking.
