The Ruling on the Sunnah Prayer Before Performing the Obligatory Prayer in Congregation
If the follower arrives for the Dhuhr prayer while the imam is performing the obligatory prayer, when should he pray the Sunnah before it? And when is it determined that he has missed a rak'ah with the imam?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: The Sunnah prayer before the obligatory prayer is performed after completing the obligatory prayer. One should perform the Sunnah prayer before and after the obligatory prayer, and it is ruled that one has missed a rak'ah with the imam if they did not catch the imam's bowing. And God knows best.
