The Ruling on the Inability to Fast as Expiation for Accidental Killing

Question
What is the ruling on accidental killing? And if the killer is unable to fast as expiation due to illnesses such as heart problems, can they pay a compensation instead?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: There is a saying among the Shafi'is that it is permissible to give a ransom when there is a permanent inability to fast in the expiation for accidental killing, by analogy to the inability to fast during Ramadan, and God knows best.
