The Ruling on the Imam's Correction in Prayer if He Forgets the Recitation
If the imam prays and then forgets or makes a mistake in the recitation, is it permissible for the follower or anyone in the place outside of prayer to remind him? Is there a difference if the prayer is obligatory or voluntary?
Answer
I say, and with God's guidance: If the imam reads the amount required in the prayer, which is three verses, and then forgets, it is preferable for him to bow. The follower should not prompt him, but it is permissible for the follower to prompt him, and it is permissible for the imam to accept the prompt. However, it is not permissible for him to take from someone outside the prayer, as that person is not in his prayer, and the prayer is invalidated if the imam takes from someone who is not with him in the prayer.
