The Ruling on the Difference in Intention of Prayer Between the Imam and the Follower
I and my husband intended to pray Fajr together, but my husband forgot to pray the Sunnah and started the obligatory prayer directly, out loud, while I intended to pray the Sunnah and completed the prayer with the intention of Sunnah, while he was with the intention of the obligatory prayer. What is the ruling on my prayer, and what are the consequences for us?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: Your Sunnah prayer is valid; it is permissible to pray the Sunnah behind the obligatory prayer, and you should not pray the Sunnah in congregation, but rather the congregation should be for the obligatory prayer, and God knows best.
