The Ruling on Rescinding a Divorce Oath
A lady wanted to work in a marketing shop, and her husband swore an oath of divorce three times that she should not work as long as he is alive. Now she has sought his permission to work, and he has granted it. What is the ruling?
Answer
I say, and with God's guidance: If he wanted to prevent her from working without his consent and now he is pleased, the divorce does not take place. If he swore to prevent her from working at all throughout his life, the divorce takes place now even if he is pleased. He should consult the mufti to confirm its situation, and God knows best.
