The Ruling on Repeating the Obligatory Prayer with the Imam
A questioner asks: We prayed Fajr before the call to prayer and before the Imam arrived with the congregation. When the Imam came, they established the prayer and we followed him in the prayer. What is the status of our prayer?
Answer
I say, and with God's success: Your prayer with the imam is disliked; because the obligatory prayer was completed with the first prayer, and your prayer with the imam is a supererogatory prayer, and performing supererogatory prayers after Fajr is disliked. And God knows best.
