The Ruling on Reducing the Amount of Charity
A woman used to donate a certain amount of her salary as charity every month, but when she bought an apartment on installments, she can no longer donate what she used to. She is committed to some charities. Is this anger from God or is it a shortcoming on her part? What is the appropriate amount of charity from the monthly salary?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: If zakat is not obligatory upon her, she may give charity as much as she can, and there is no specific estimation for that; rather, it is a search for reward and merit, and God knows best.
