The Ruling on Paying the Value in Expiation
A mother vowed that if her daughter succeeded, she would make her commit a wrongdoing in the street. Is it permissible to give money instead of feeding ten needy people?
Answer
I say, and with God's success: A vow can only be for obedience, so what she said is meaningless and has no value. However, she should seek forgiveness from God Almighty for such words, and God knows best.
