The Ruling on One Who Burned Himself and Died Without Intending to Commit Suicide

Question

A young man died in the town; he was arguing with his uncle and threatened his uncle that he would burn himself. He burned himself, but he did not intend to kill himself. However, the burning was severe, and he died. Is he considered to have died as a disbeliever?

Answer

I say, and with God's success: Whoever kills himself, even intentionally, is not considered a disbeliever, but he has committed a great sin. We ask God to forgive him; God knows best.
